Jennifer Chong

Corporate Governance Expert & Female Director Recruitment Specialist
PhD in Board Effectiveness  ·  8+ Years Board Consulting Experience

Who I Am

I'm a corporate governance expert helping Singapore's boards strengthen effectiveness, reach compliance targets, and build diverse leadership. My work combines academic research rigour with practical consulting experience, bridging the gap between governance theory and business reality.

With a PhD in Corporate Governance and over 8 years of research focused on board effectiveness and gender diversity, I understand both the why (research evidence) and the how (practical implementation). I've published research in leading academic journals while simultaneously working directly with Singapore's boards on real-world governance challenges.

I believe effective governance isn't just about compliance — it's about boards that make better decisions, develop leadership pipelines, attract investment, and create sustainable value. My mission is to help boards move from "compliance checkbox" to "governance excellence."

Three Core Principles

01

Evidence-Based

My recommendations are grounded in rigorous research, not opinions. Academic rigour meets business practicality — every insight backed by published evidence.

02

Practical Implementation

Consulting isn't valuable if it doesn't get implemented. I don't just advise — I provide hands-on support to ensure recommendations become reality.

03

Singapore-Focused

I understand Singapore's unique regulatory environment, business culture, and professional networks. My expertise is specific, not generic.

The Board Governance Imperative

Your board shapes your organisation's future. After 8+ years of research, the evidence is clear:

Strong boards achieve:

  • Better strategic decisions (diverse perspectives, healthy debate)
  • More effective risk management (catching what others miss)
  • Greater investor confidence and capital attraction
  • Stronger talent retention and leadership pipelines
  • Regulatory compliance and reputational protection
  • Sustainable long-term value creation

Weak governance leads to:

  • Poor strategic choices and missed opportunities
  • Unidentified and unmanaged risks
  • SGX regulatory problems and reputational damage
  • Leadership crises without succession plans
  • Investor scepticism and reduced access to capital
  • Talent drain from leadership pipeline failures
